EMISSIONS RECALL --
1989 VEHICLES WITH 2.5 LITER TURBOCHARGED ENGINE AND CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS SYSTEM

Dear Chrysler Motors Vehicle Owner:

Recently we learned that a small number of 1989 model year vehicles equipped with a 2.5L turbocharged engine, manual transmission, and California emissions control system were built with an incorrect engine controller. Models affected include Dodge Daytona, Shadow, and Caravan; Plymouth Sundance and Voyager; and Chrysler LeBaron and LeBaron GTS. The condition could result in hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide levels which exceed the limits allowed by the California Emissions Standards. For this reason, we are asking you to return your vehicle -- identified by the Vehicle Identification Number on the enclosed form -- to your dealer for replacement of the controller. This service will be provided free of charge.

The needed instructions have been sent to all Chrysler-Plymouth and Dodge dealers in California. The service will not hurt your engine performance or fuel economy. Your dealer is ready to serve you now. To obtain this service:

^ Contact your dealer as soon as possible to make an appointment for the free service. We request that you contact the dealer who sold you the vehicle. However, if necessary, the service can be arranged for through any ChryslerPlymouth or Dodge dealer. Provide the model name of your vehicle and tell the dealer that you want Recall Number 450 repair service performed. The dealer will then be able to order the correct replacement parts prior to your appointment.

^ Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the vehicle and recall for which service is required.

^ The dealer will replace the engine controller. The service will take about one-half hour.

The State of California requires that every vehicle must pass an emission test every two years and before it is sold. Without the free service we are providing, your vehicle may be more likely to fail this test and require that you make costly repairs.

We regret any inconvenience this action may cause, but trust you understand our interest in clean air and in your continued satisfaction with our products. If you experience any difficulty in obtaining the corrective service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service Assistance" in your Operator's Manual.) The Zone Office will take the necessary action to ensure prompt correction of your vehicle.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this important matter.
