Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

DISASSEMBLY

Distributor Assembly:

1. Remove the distributor cap and rotor.
2. Remove the clip holding the vacuum control arm to the breaker plate and remove the screw holding the vacuum control to the distributor housing. Remove vacuum control unit.
3. Remove the igniter and pick-up coil covers, remove lead wires to pickup coil and the igniter.
4. Remove the igniter and pick-up coil from the distributor assembly.
5. Remove screws securing the breaker plate to the distributor housing and pull from its housing.
6. Remove the concealer cap and screw holding the signal rotor shaft in place, remove the signal rotor shaft.
7. Remove the two spring retainers with pliers and then remove two governor springs.
8. Inspect mechanical advance mechanism for component damage and free movement. Clean and/or replace any damaged or dirty components.



ASSEMBLY




1. Install the governor weights, springs, and spring retainers with pliers.
2. Install the distributor signal rotor shaft into the distributor.
3. Install the breaker plate into the distributor housing. Install the breaker plate screws.
4. Install the igniter and pick-up coil, connect lead wires to pickup coil and the igniter. Install the igniter and pick-up coil covers.
5. Install the vacuum control unit. Connect vacuum control arm to the breaker plate and install vacuum control unit mounting screw. Install the clip holding the vacuum control arm to breaker plate post.
6. Install distributor rotor and cap.
