Alternator: Service and Repair





1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove A/C drive belt, then the two nuts and bolts retaining A/C compressor to mounting bracket.
3. Without disconnecting A/C refrigerant lines, position A/C compressor to allow alternator removal.
4. Remove alternator drive belt. Remove two alternator mounting bolts and position alternator to gain access to all wire connectors.
5. On models equipped with Bosch alternator, remove B+ terminal nut, field terminal nuts and ground harness hold down nuts. Remove wire connector assembly.









6. On models equipped with Nippondenso alternator, remove nuts from field terminals, ground terminal, wire harness and B+ terminal. B+ terminal nut must be removed last, to prevent damage to terminal insulator.
7. On all models, remove alternator from vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque A/C compressor mounting bolts to 40 ft. lbs.
b. Torque alternator mounting bolts to 40 ft.lbs.
