Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Fuel Pump:





REMOVAL:
1. Fuel system pressure must be released prior to service. Refer to Powertrain Management/Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Service and Repair.
2. Fuel tank must be removed prior to fuel pump service. Refer to FUEL TANK REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT.
3. Using a brass drift punch and hammer, gently tap lock ring counterclockwise, to release pump. Lift fuel pump part way out of tank to expose fuel return hose and connection. Release fuel return hose connection, remove fuel pump from tank and discard fuel pump O-ring, pump inlet filter, and inlet seal.

INSTALLATION
1. Wipe seal area of tank clean, and install a new O-ring seal, inlet seal, and filter on pump.
2. Partially install pump into tank opening. Connect fuel return hose to pump assembly and make sure connector snaps into place.
3. Lower fuel pump all the way into tank, and make sure return hose is not kinked. Install fuel pump locking ring.
4. Using the brass drift and hammer tap lock ring clockwise to lock fuel pump into tank. After fuel tank installation perform fuel system pressure test to check for leaks, refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING/FUEL SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS.
