Fig. 2 Engine Removal And Installation (Part 2 Of 2):
1. Depressurize fuel system as follows:
a. Loosen gas cap to release tank pressure.
b. Disconnect electrical connector from injector.
c. Ground one injector terminal using a jumper wire.
d. Connect jumper wire to second terminal and touch battery positive terminal for no longer than 10 seconds, then remove jumper wire.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, the scribe hood hinge locations and remove hood.
3. Drain engine coolant, engine oil, transfer case fluid and transmission oil.
4. On manual transaxle models, drain clutch hydraulic fluid.
5. On models W/air conditioning, discharge refrigerant.
Fig. 1 Engine Mounting:
6. On all models, raise and support vehicle, then remove snow protection undercover, undercover, skid plate, transfer case protector and cross shaft protector, if equipped.
7. Remove transmission and transfer assembly. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Manual Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair.
8. Disconnect radiator upper and lower hoses and overflow tube, then remove fan shroud.
9. On vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles, remove oil cooler hose and tube assemblies.
10. On all models, remove radiator and bushings.
11. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from engine.
12. Remove air cleaner duct.
13. Remove engine drive belts.
14. Remove A/C compressor, if equipped and position aside. Leave compressor lines connected.
15. Disconnect oil cooler hoses from engine.
16. Remove power steering pump, if equipped and position aside. Leave pressure and return hoses connected.
17. Disconnect fuel high pressure hose. Cover fuel pipe line with a rag as fuel pressure may remain.
18. Disconnect fuel return hose.
19. Disconnect vacuum hose (10).
20. Disconnect water hoses from engine.
21. Disconnect electrical wiring and electrical sensors that would inhibit engine removal.
22. Remove ignition coil and power transistor assembly (15).
23. Disconnect purge hose and brake booster hose.
24. Disconnect accelerator cable, cable bracket, and cruise control cable, if equipped.
25. Remove heat protector, then remove engine mounting bolts.
