Computers and Control Systems: Service and Repair
CAUTION: Verify whether or not the connector is of the Waterproof type or the Conventional (non-waterproof) type, before checking for continuity and/or voltage at the wiring harness connectors. Deterioration of the waterproofing will result if improper testing procedures are followed.CONVENTIONAL (NON-WATERPROOF) CONNECTORS
Testing The Harness Connectors:
When checking for voltage or continuity, insert a probing needle into the harness from the wiring harness side of the connector. Do not disconnect the connector.
WATERPROOF TYPE CONNECTORS
Testing The Waterproof Harness Connectors:
To inspect a waterproof type connector, use an ECI Checker. Do NOT insert a probing needle into the harness. This will deteriorate the water protection and be the cause for rust to form.
INSPECTION OF TERMINAL ENGAGEMENT
Testing The Wire Terminal Connections:
When the terminal stay within the connector is not secure, male and female terminal engagement is insufficient, even when the connector halves are fully seated.
Verify that the wires are securely in place by gently pulling each harness wire.
Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES/HARNESS CONNECTORS, if a wire terminal is loose or the connector needs to be adjusted to secure harness connections.
