Wheel Speed Sensor: Adjustments
Checking Sensor Air Gap:
1. Remove speed sensor from differential.
2. Measure distance (dimension B) between end of sensor pole piece and bottom of sensor flange. Distance should measure 1.07-1.08 in. (27.17-27.43 mm).
3. Measure distance (dimension A) between teeth at top of exciter ring and sensor mounting surface of differential case. Distance should measure 1.085-1.120 in. (27.5-28.4 mm).
4. Subtract dimension B from dimension A. The difference (dimension C) should be 0.005-0.050 in. (0.12-1.27 mm).
5. If gap is not as specified:
a. If dimension B is not as indicated in step 2, replace sensor.
b. If dimension A is not as indicated in step 3, replace exciter wheel or repair differential.
c. If both dimension A and B are not as indicated, replace the sensor and exciter wheel.
