Visual Inspection
A visual inspection for loose, disconnected, damaged, or misrouted wires and/or hoses should be made prior to diagnosing or servicing the fuel injection system. A thorough visual inspection will help find these faults and save unnecessary testing and diagnostic time.VISUAL INSPECTION
1. Check the ignition coil electrical connections.
Ignition Coil Electrical Connection:
2. Check that the 2-way electrical connections on the canister purge solenoid and the wastegate control solenoid are fastened properly.
Wastegate Control Solenoid Location:
3. Check that the 3-way electrical connector on the MAP sensor is connected properly.
Baro/MAP Sensor Vacuum Hose Connections:
4. Check the vacuum hose connections between the vacuum sources and the canister purge and wastegate control solenoids.
Wastegate Control Solenoid Location:
5. Check the vacuum hose connections between the vacuum sources and the MAP sensor and barometric solenoid.
Baro/MAP Sensor Vacuum Hose Connections:
6. Check that the vacuum hoses are securely attached to the vapor canister, and that there are no cracks or holes in the hoses.
Vapor Canister Hose Connections:
7. Check the alternator wiring connections, belt condition, and belt tension.
8. Check secondary ignition cable routing and connections.
Ignition Cable Mounting And Attachment:
9. Check the oil pressure sending unit electrical connection.
10. Check the radiator fan electrical connections.
11. Check the two 3-way distributor electrical connections.
Oil Pressure Sending Unit Electrical Connection:
12. Check the coolant temperature sensor 2-way electrical connector, and the battery ground at the engine.
Coolant Temperature Sensor:
13. Check the engine temperature sensor electrical connection.
Engine Temperature Sensor Electrical Connection:
14. Check the speed control and power brake booster connections.
Power Brake Booster And Speed Control Vacuum Connections:
15. Check the engine harness to main harness electrical connections.
Engine Harness To Main Harness Electrical Connection:
16. Check the neutral safety switch electrical connection.
Neutral Safety Switch Wiring Connection:
17. Check battery terminal connections for cleanliness and tightness, and check that all electrical connectors are fully inserted into their appropriate relays.
Relay Locations:
18. Check the 60-way engine controller connector for proper installation.
Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC):
19. Check the 4-way automatic idle speed motor electrical connection.
20. Check the 3-way throttle position sensor electrical connection.
21. Check the vacuum hose connections at the throttle body.
Throttle Body Electrical And Vacuum Connections:
22. Check that the vacuum hose connections are firmly attached to the PCV valve and the intake manifold, and between the vacuum source and the fuel pressure regulator.
23. Check the detonation (knock) sensor electrical connection and the injector harness electrical connector.
PCV And Vacuum Vapor Harness:
24. Check the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
25. Check the engine ground strap connections at the intake manifold and the dash panel.
Heated Oxygen Sensor:
26. Check the turbo bypass valve and wastegate hose connections.
Wastegate And Bypass Valve Hose Connections:
27. Check that the vehicle distance (speed) sensors' 2-way electrical connector is connected properly.
Vehicle Distance Sensor:
28. Check the electrical and fuel hose connections at the fuel pump. Verify that the electrical connector is fully pushed onto the fuel pump.
