SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Gearshift knob pulls off of gearshift lever during shifting.

DIAGNOSIS

With gearshift knob removed from gearshift lever, measure the length of the gearshift mechanism roll pin (Figure 1). If the roll pin is less than 3/4" in length, it should be replaced.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Pull shift boot down from gearshift knob and remove knob from gearshift lever (Figure 2) by using two screwdrivers to pry gearshift knob ears out over the roll pin.
2. Using a hammer and a small drift punch, gently tap the original roll pin out of the gearshift lever.

3. Tap the new roll pin (PN 6502386) into place positioning it so that an equal amount of the pin protrudes from each side of the lever.

4. Install gearshift knob over roll pin and pull shift boot into the positioning groove in shift knob.
