NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES ONLY TO VEHICLES WITH 2.2L AND 2.5L EFI ENGINES EQUIPPED WITH AN EGR SYSTEM.


SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The vehicle's "Check Engine/Power Loss" lamp comes on and Fault Codes 13 and/or 14 are set into the diagnostic system.


DIAGNOSIS:

Using the DRB II tester and the appropriate diagnostic manual, verify that Fault Codes 13 (No Change in MAP From Start to Run) and/or 14 (MAP Voltage Too High/Low), and no other fault codes, are present. If it is determined that the MAP sensor must be replaced, perform the following repair in addition to replacing the MAP sensor. Perform the tests outlined in the appropriate service manual to check the function of the EGR Valve/Back Pressure Transducer assembly and replace if necessary.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair involves the installation of a formed hose and MAP sensor bleed assembly.

1. Remove and discard the rubber hose connecting the MAP sensor to the vacuum harness (on passenger cars) or to the throttle body (on minivans).

2. Install the MAP sensor bleed assembly (4669040) into the formed hose (4669109) supplied with the package. For passenger cars (except 1989 Omni/Horizon and all 1990-91 passenger cars) install the bleed assembly into the long leg of the molded hose. For minivans install the bleed assembly into the short leg of the molded hose (Figure 1).


3. Cut the 17.5" sensor bleed hose (4638819), supplied in the package, to the length shown in the following chart. Install this hose on the MAP sensor bleed assembly. This hose is not required on 1989 Omni/Horizon or 1990-91 passenger cars.

4. For 1989 Omni/Horizon and all 1990-91 passenger cars, cut the 3.0" leg of the formed hose (4669109) at 1.5" and insert the sensor bleed assembly (Figure 2).


5. Install the hose and bleed assembly in place of the hose removed in Step 1. The MAP sensor bleed assembly should be adjusted so that it is not below a horizontal position.

6. Use the DRB II to erase any fault codes and perform the applicable verification tests.
