To: All Dodge and Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers

Subject: Additional Service Requirement for Safety Recall # 314T -- Front Seat Belts -
A flat washer must also be used when installing the reinforcement plate to the seat belt strap

Reference: Safety Recall # 314T Notification letter dated May, 1991 -- 1989 and 1990 AS Body front seat belts





A flat washer must also be installed when a reinforcement package is added to a seat belt strap. These washers are not included in the current recall parts packages.

Without a washer, the grommet, which is added as part of the reinforcement package, may not be compressed enough to hold the buckle in the upright position.

To keep a repaired buckle assembly from rotating to the floor, a 1/2 inch inside diameter flat washer must be included during installation. The preferred washer, if readily available, is 1/16 inch thick and 1 inch outside diameter.

Install the flat washer so that it is located between the belt strap and the rubber grommet when performing Step 4 of the service procedure, as shown below.


If you have already performed this recall service on any involved vehicles, please make arrangements to have those vehicles returned to install flat washers as described above.
