This dealer notification letter cancels and supersedes the original dealer notification letter for Safety Recall # 314T dated May, 1991. Discard the original letter.
All changes identified in the documents referenced above are included in these revised instructions.
Inboard front seat belt buckle assembly straps (driver and passenger) on the involved vehicles may fail if they become damaged by being bent away from the seat cushion to the floor.
To prevent such damage, a reinforcement plate must be installed to the strap. Also the tab must be removed from the strap, to allow the belt to rotate if it is loaded. If damage has already occurred (see Service Procedure), affected front seat belt buckle and strap assemblies must be replaced.
Important: Be sure to complete the service on any involved vehicles in dealer stock before retail delivery.
Parts are being supplied for this recall in accordance with the recently announced Recall Parts Pricing Policy, as explained in the Parts section of this letter.
For this recall, owner notifications are being mailed in stages as sufficient parts for each stage are received. Mailing of the first stage began in late May, 1991.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.
NOTE: As an additional service aid, a videotape demonstrating the inspection and service procedure is included in the June, 1991 Master Tech program.
