SAFETY RECALL - FRONT SEAT BELTS

Dear Chrysler Corporation Vehicle Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Chrysler Corporation has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1989 and 1990 model Plymouth Voyagers and Dodge Caravans and some 1990 Chrysler Town and Country vehicles. The front seat belt buckle straps may be damaged by a vehicle occupant -- most likely a child -- bending them back and forth away from the seat cushions to the vehicle floor. Such bending can result in strap breakage or weakening. A weakened strap may not adequately protect a belted front seat occupant during a collision.

Your vehicle, identified on the enclosed form, is affected. For this reason, we ask that you arrange for service to correct the condition without delay. The service and required parts as described in this letter will be provided free of charge.

To protect against bending damage to the seat belt strap, a steel reinforcement must be installed. If bending damage has already occurred, the belt buckle and strap assembly must be replaced.

The work will take about one-half hour to complete. However, additional time may be required depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed. To obtain this free service:

^ Contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment for the service.

^ Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the vehicle and recall for which the service is required.

^ The dealer will inspect the front seat belt buckle straps to determine if they have been damaged by being bent away from the seat cushions. If not, the dealer will install reinforcement straps to protect them from bending damage. If they are already damaged, the dealer will replace them with new parts.

If you have any problem obtaining the needed service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Service Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service Assistance" in your Owner's Manual.) A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your vehicle.

We regret any inconvenience which this action may cause you. However, we believe that you understand our concern for motor vehicle safety, and for your continued satisfaction with our products. If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge within a reasonable time, you may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the Toll Free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393. (Washington D.C. area residents may call 366-0123.)

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
