Transmission Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. On 2WD models, shift transmission into Neutral position.
3. remove screws attaching shift lever upper boot to lower boot plate, then slide boot up on lever and remove lower boot and plate screws from floor pan.
4. Remove shift lever extension and slide lower boot and plate off shift lever, then remove transmission shift tower boot and snap ring securing shift lever in tower.
5. Remove shift lever, noting position for installation reference, then raise and support vehicle.
6. Mark and remove propeller shaft(s) and U-joints, then disconnect all electrical connections from transmission.
7. On 4WD models, remove transfer case skid plate and crossmember, then the transfer case as outlined in "Transfer Case" section.
8. support transmission with suitable jack and secure with safety chains, then remove transmission rear mount to crossmember bolts.
9. Remove crossmember and clutch slave cylinder shield, then loosen slave cylinder attaching nuts until piston rod clears release lever.
10. Support engine with suitable jack stand and wood block, then remove transmission from clutch housing.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque transmission to clutch housing bolts and rear crossmember bolts to 50 ft-lbs.
b. On 4WD models, torque transfer case attaching nuts to 35 ft-lbs. and skid plate and crossmember bolts/nuts to 30 ft-lbs.
c. Torque U-joint clamp bolts to 14 ft-lbs.
