SYMPTOM CONDITION
During extreme cold ambient temperature (+ 10~F or less) conditions, a long delay (as much as 10 minutes) may occur when changing the air conditioning/heater mode switch from defrost to any other mode.
PARTS REQUIRED
1 Vacuum Control System Check Valve P/N 5264270
DIAGNOSIS
The delay in mode change from defrost to any other mode will most likely occur during ambient temperatures of + 10~F or less. The delay may be caused by an air conditioning/heater vacuum control system check valve freeze-up condition.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
When a vehicle owner encounters the SYMPTOM/CONDITION described above, replace the vacuum control system check valve assembly with Part Number 5264270, as listed under "PARTS REQUIRED." Refer to the following procedure.
FIGURE 1:
1. As illustrated in Figure 1, the vacuum control system check valve is located at the master cylinder power booster vacuum fitting.
2. Disconnect the check valve from the power booster vacuum fitting.
3. Disconnect the plastic vacuum line from the check valve, being careful not to damage the rubber fitting at the end of the vacuum line.
4. Insert the check valve into the vacuum line rubber fitting and connect to the power booster vacuum fitting.
5. Start engine and check the system vacuum leaks.
