The automatic tensioner is equipped with an indexing arrow on the back of the tensioner housing. If a new belt is being installed, the arrow must be within approximately 1/8 inch of the point B indexing mark. If an old belt is being used, it must not pass the point marked A, Fig. 19.
REMOVAL
1. Attach a suitable wrench to the pulley mounting bolt of the automatic tensioner, Fig. 20.
2. Rotate tensioner assembly clockwise until tension has been relieved.
3. Remove belt from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Position drive belt over all pulleys except idler pulley.
2. Attach a suitable wrench to the pulley mounting bolt of the automatic tensioner.
3. Rotate wrench clockwise, place belt over idler pulley then allow tensioner to rotate back into place. Ensure belt is properly seated on all pulleys.
4. Check belt indexing marks as described.
