Fuel Tank Draining Procedure
DRAINING FUEL TANK
WARNING: THE TBI FUEL SYSTEM IS UNDER A CONSTANT PRESSURE OF APPROXIMATELY 100 KPA (14.5 PSI). BEFORE DRAINING THE FUEL TANK THE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE MUST BE RELEASED.
1. Remove fuel filler cap to release any pressure in tank.
2. Release fuel system pressure. Service and Repair
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Drain fuel into an approved, properly labeled container using one of the following procedures.
WARNING: EXTINGUISH ALL SMOKING MATERIAL BEFORE SERVING FUEL TANK. KEEP OPEN FLAME AWAY FROM FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
If Fuel Pump Operates:
Drain fuel through the fuel supply hose using the fuel pump.
If Fuel Pump Does Not Operate, And Fuel Level is Below the Fuel Filler Hose:
Disconnect the fuel filler hose from the filler neck and drain fuel by siphoning through the fuel filler hose.
If Fuel Pump Does Not Operate, And Fuel Level is Above the Fuel Filler Hose:
1. Support tank with suitable jack.
2. Loosen tank mounting straps.
3. With the passenger's side slightly lower, loosen the filler neck to filler hose clamp.
4. Wrap the filler hose with a shop towel and carefully disconnect the filler hose from the filler neck. Drain tank through filler hose.
