Engine: Service and Repair
If vehicle is equipped with manual transmission, transmission must be removed prior to engine removal. Refer to Transmission and Drivetrain/Manual Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair.1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove oil dipstick.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove exhaust crossover pipe, then the inspection cover from transmission.
4. Drain engine oil, then remove engine to transmission strut.
5. Remove engine oil pan attaching screws, then the oil pan. It may be necessary to turn crankshaft to clear front of oil pan.
6. Remove oil pump and pickup tube assembly, then the flexplate to torque converter attaching bolts.
7. On models with automatic transmissions, remove inspection cover from transmission, then flex plate to torque converter bolts.
8. Remove starter attaching bolts, then starter.
9. Remove lower bellhousing bolts.
10. On models manual transmission, support transmission with suitable stand, remove starter attaching bolts, then starter.
