Knock Sensor: Description and Operation
Detonation (Knock) Sensor:
The detonation sensor is a signal generator that operates when a spark knock occurs in the combustion chambers. The sensor is mounted in the engine block where it can detect detonation in any of the cylinders. The sensor sends a signal to the engine controller indicating that ignition knock (ping) is occuring. The engine controller will then adjust the spark advance in order to eliminate the detonation.
