Park Brake Cable - Rattling Noise

Rattle From Rear Of Vehicle - Park Brake Cable


MODELS:

1991-1992 (AS) Grand Caravan/Grand Voyager/Town & Country

THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO LONG WHEEL BASE MINIVANS ONLY.


SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Vehicle exhibits a noise or a rattle from the rear of the vehicle. This noise may be caused by the right rear park brake cable vibrating in the cable hanger.


DIAGNOSIS:

Verify that the rattling is coming from the right rear park brake cable. Vehicles exhibiting this condition should have the following procedure performed.


PARTS REQUIRED:

Sealant, Silicone Rubber Adhesive (As Required) 4318025

1 Cable Hanger Package 4723609

Consisting Of:

1 Hanger, Park Brake Cable K4683387
1 Urethane Tubing K4723608


REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This procedure involves installation of urethane tubing onto the park brake cable and replacement of the cable hanger with a revised hanger.

1. Locate the hanger supporting the right rear park brake cable and mark the cable 50 mm (2 inches) on each side of the hanger.


2. Remove the cable hanger from the vehicle body.

3. Remove the cable hanger from the cable by spreading the hanger loop open.

4. Spread Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive (PN 4318025) between the two marks made in Step 1.

5. Install the longitudinally split urethane tubing (PN K4723608) between the two marks. Tightly wrap each end of the tubing with two layers of PVC electrical tape.

6. Install the new hanger (PN K4683387) by slipping the hanger over the center of the urethane tube and closing the loop. The new hanger should move easily over the tubing with a clearance of 1.5 - 3.0 mm (1/16 - 1/8 inch).

7. Attach the hanger to the vehicle body.
