SAFETY RECALL -- ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM HIGH PRESSURE HOSE
Dear Chrysler Corporation Vehicle Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Chrysler Corporation has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some vehicles equipped with the anti-lock brake system (ABS). The following models are affected:
^ Dodge Dynasty, Chrysler New Yorker, Fifth Avenue and Imperial vehicles -- late 1990 and 1991 models.
^ 1991 Plymouth Voyager and Grand Voyager, Dodge Caravan, Grand Caravan and Caravan C/V.
^ 1991 Eagle Premier and Dodge Monaco.
Your vehicle, identified on the enclosed form, requires service to correct the condition. We ask that you arrange for this service without delay. The service and required parts as described in this letter will be provided free of charge.
The defect involves the high pressure hose of the ABS system. This hose may come loose from its end fitting, causing leakage of fluid from the brake hydraulic system. If this occurs, it may cause loss of the anti-lock brake function and eventual loss of power brake assist. An increase in stopping distance could result.
With this defect, the driver will be warned that a partial loss of braking has occurred. The warning will be provided by the lighting of the amber Anti-Lock Warning Lamp and the red Brake Warning Lamp in the instrument cluster. If the warning signal is ignored, the increased stopping distance could result in a crash.
During the service procedure, your dealer will replace the potentially defective high pressure hose with a new type of hose.
The work will take about one hour to complete. However, additional time may be required depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed. To obtain this free service:
^ Contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.
^ Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the vehicle and recall for which the service is required.
If you have any problem obtaining the needed service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Service Office in your area. (It is listed under "Service Assistance" in your Owner's Manual.) A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your vehicle.
We regret any inconvenience which this action may cause you. However, we believe that you understand our concern for motor vehicle safety, and for your continued satisfaction with our products. If your dealer fails or is unable to remedy this defect without charge within a reasonable time, you may submit a written complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the Toll Free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393. (Washington D.C. area residents may call 366-0123.)
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
