Removal and Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Drain fluid from transmission.
4. Disconnect or remove exhaust components as needed.
5. Remove engine to transmission struts, if equipped.
6. Disconnect and cap transmission fluid lines.
7. Remove transmission fluid cooler line bracket.
8. Remove starter motor attaching bolts, then the starter motor.
9. Remove torque converter access cover.
10. Mark torque converter and driveplate for installation, then remove torque converter to driveplate attaching bolts.
11. Remove propeller shaft(s) from vehicle.
12. Disconnect back-up light and neutral start switch electrical connector(s), then the lock-up solenoid electrical connector, if equipped.
13. Disconnect gearshift rod and torque shaft assembly from transmission.
14. Disconnect throttle rod from transmission lever, then remove bell crank linkage from transmission, if equipped.
15. On 4WD models, remove transfer case skid plate.
16. On all models, remove oil filler tube, then disconnect speedometer cable from transmission.
17. Position a suitable engine holding fixture onto engine.
18. Position a suitable jack under transmission, then raise transmission slightly.
19. Remove transmission mount to crossmember and crossmember to frame attaching bolts.
20. Remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.
21. Carefully separate transmission from engine, and install a suitable C clamp onto bellhousing to secure torque converter in place.
22. Lower transmission from vehicle.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
