Visual Inspection

A visual inspection for loose, disconnected, damaged, or misrouted wires and/or hoses should be made prior to diagnosing or servicing the fuel injection system. A thorough visual inspection will help find these faults and save unnecessary testing and diagnostic time.

VISUAL INSPECTION

1. Check that the 60-way engine controller electrical connector is fully pushed into the Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC) connector.

Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC):

2. Check that the vacuum hoses are firmly attached to the vapor canister, and that they aren't leaking.

Charcoal Canister Location:

3. Check the alternator wiring connections, belt condition, and belt tension.
4. Check that the engine ground strap is attached at the engine and the firewall.

Engine Ground Strap To Engine:

5. Check that the electrical connections are properly connected to the ignition coil.

Ignition Coil Connections:

6. Check that the 3-way distributor electrical connector is securely attached to the distributor harness.
7. Check that the oil pressure switch 2-way electrical connector is securely attached to the oil pressure sending unit.

Distributor And Oil Pressure Switch Electrical Connections:

8. Check that the oxygen sensors 4-way electrical connector is securely attached to the oxygen sensor.

Heated Oxygen Sensor Connection:

9. Check that the air switching solenoids 2-way electrical connector and vacuum connector are securely attached to the air switching solenoid.
10. Check that the EGR solenoids 2-way electrical connector and vacuum connector are securely attached to the EGR solenoid.
11. Check that the canister purge solenoids 2-way electrical connector and vacuum connector are securely attached to the canister purge solenoid.

Solenoid Trio:

12. Check that the engine harness to main wiring harness electrical connections are fully pressed into each other.

Engine Harness To Main Harness:

13. Check that the throttle body temperature sensors 2-way electrical connector is securely attached to the throttle body temperature sensor.
