BELT DEFLECTION METHOD
Warning: Belts must be checked with engine not running.
1. Locate the half-way point between two pulleys.
2. Apply a 10 pound push or pull load on the belt with a small spring scale.
3. Measure the deflection of the belt while under the ten pound load.
4. The deflection should be between 1/4" and 5/16" for all belts.
Note: The deflection of a new belt should be between 1/4" and 1/2". A belt is considered used after 15 minutes of operation on a vehicle.
