Premature Rear Brake Wear With 12" Rear Brake Drums
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 05-04-92 Rev. A DATED APR. 21, 1992 WHICH SHOULD BE NOTED IN YOUR FILES. THE MODEL YEARS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED AND BOTH MODELS NOW USE THE SAME BRAKE SHOE AND LINING KIT.

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO AB VEHICLES WITH A GVWR 8510 LB. AND UNDER. THIS BULLETIN DOES NOT APPLY TO VANS WITH SCHOOL BUS PACKAGES OVER 8510 LB. GVWR.
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 12" REAR BRAKE DRUMS ONLY.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some vehicles equipped with 12" rear brake drums may exhibit premature wear of the rear brake lining.
DIAGNOSIS:
Verify the vehicle is equipped with 12" rear brake drums. Ensure the brake system is properly functioning as designed.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 4720191 Rear Brake Shoe and Lining Kit
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacement of the rear brake linings with new revised linings.
VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 12"x 3" REAR BRAKE DRUMS
1. Replace the rear brake shoe and lining. Resurface drums as needed to true surface.
VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 12" x 2.5" REAR BRAKE DRUMS)
1. Resurface the rear brake drums to accommodate the new revised brake lining (the new lining is 12" x 3"). Install the new revised brake lining.
NOTE:
WHEEL BEARING OIL SEALS AND AXLE SHAFT SEALS SHOULD BE REPLACED WHEN REFINISHING REAR BRAKE DRUMS.
