NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.0L ENGINE WITH ENGINE BUILD DATES 7-031 THROUGH 7-212.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Customers may complain of an oil leak in the filter bracket area. On vehicles with the engine build dates of 7-031 through 7-212, the surface between the engine block and oil filter bracket may be mis-machined. This surface may cause an oil leak at the oil filter bracket. A special oil filter bracket gasket is now available, and will compensate for the surface irregularities.

NOTE:





THE ENGINE BUILD DATE IS LOCATED ON THE TAG ON THE REAR SIDE OF THE AIR INTAKE PLENUM, SEE ILLUSTRATION.



DIAGNOSIS:

Visually inspect for leakage between the engine block and oil filter bracket. Verify the engine build date is from 7-031 through 7-212, if it is, proceed with the repair procedure.


CAUTION:
USING THIS SPECIAL GASKET ON ENGINE BLOCKS OTHER THAN SPECIFIED, WILL RESULT IN AN OIL LEAK.


PARTS REQUIRED:

1 Gasket, Oil Filter Bracket MD198554


REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair involves replacement of the oil filter bracket gasket with a special gasket.

1. Remove the oil filter and oil filter bracket as outlined in the appropriate service manual.

2. Install the special oil filter bracket gasket, PN MD198554.

3. Install the oil filter bracket, torque to 15 N-m (130 in.lbs.).

4. Install oil filter.

5. Fill to proper oil level and check for leaks.
