A. Inspect Support Attachments

1. Raise and support the liftgate in the open position.





2. Disconnect the rear seat shoulder belt turning loops from the D-Pillars (Figure 1).

3. Pull back the upper D-pillar trim panels. Use wood blocks to hold the trim panels away from the liftgate support attachments (Figure 1).





4. Attempt to move (spin) the liftgate support attaching bolt washers at each end of both supports by hand (Figure 2).

5. If the attaching bolt washers at both ends of a support are secure and do not move or spin, only the washers on that support require replacement. Proceed to Section B. If either of the two washers on a support move or spin, the affected support must be replaced. Proceed to Section C.

NOTE:
Liftgate supports, if required at all, do NOT have to be replaced in pairs.
