C. Liftgate Support Replacement
NOTE:Only those vehicles with loose support washers as determined by the inspection in Section "A", require liftgate support replacement. Very few vehicles are expected to require this repair. Supports do NOT have to be replaced in pairs.
1. Remove and discard the liftgate support.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the liftgate is supported.
2. Apply two (2) drops of Mopar Lock & Seal (PN 4318031) or equivalent, to the last four (4) threads of each bolt on a new liftgate support.
NOTE:
New liftgate supports already have the larger bolt washers. It is NOT necessary to replace the washers when installing a new support.
3. Install the new support and tighten the attaching bolts to 250 in-lbs (28 N.m).
NOTE:
The liftgate support must be installed with the tube end connected to the body and the rod end connected to the liftgate (Figure 2).
4. Remove the wood block and install the D-pillar trim panel.
5. Install the rear seat shoulder belt turning loop and tighten the bolt to 350 in-lbs (40 N.m) (Figure 1).
6. Repeat Steps 1-5 for the other support if necessary.
