Air Conditioning - Condensation Enters Vehicle

9217chrysler01

NO.: 24-01-92

GROUP: Air Conditioning

DATE: Jan. 27, 1992

SUBJECT:
Air Conditioning Condensation Enters Vehicle

MODELS:

1991-1992 (AS) Caravan/Grand
Caravan/Caravan C/V
Voyager/Grand
Voyager/Town & Country

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some of the subject vehicles may exhibit water entry into the vehicle passenger compartment from the A/C-heater housing floor outlets or from the drain tube area. Water entry near the drain tube saturates the insulation beneath the carpet below the drain tube. Water entry will most likely occur in high ambient/high humidity areas when the climate control system is in bi-level with the blower speed in the ON position and A/C button engaged.

DIAGNOSIS:

If entry is from the A/C heater housing floor outlets, perform both Procedures A and B. If there are signs of water entry from the drain tube area only, perform Procedure B only.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 Clip, Condensate Wall 04720826

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

Procedure A:

This procedure involves removing the A/C-heater housing and installing a condensate wall clip.

1. Remove the A/C-heater housing as described in the applicable Service Manual.

2. Remove the top cover from the A/C-heater housing as described in the Service Manual. Wipe the interior of the housing until it is clean and dry next to the condensate wall (Fig 1).

3. Install the condensate wall clip on the condensate wall as shown in Fig. 1. The clip must be pushed down until it contacts the bottom of the housing.

4. Apply Mopar RTV Sealant (04318025) along the bottom and sides of the condensate clip to seal it to the A/C-heater housing and condensate wall. Allow six hours to cure.

5. If the vehicle is a 1992 model and has an air direction baffle between the blower and evaporator core, remove the baffle and discard it. If the vehicle is a 1991 model, the air direction baffle is needed and must remain in the housing.

6. Assemble the A/C-heater housing as described in the Service
Manual and install it in the vehicle.

Procedure B:

This Procedure involves modifying the drain tube.

1. Remove the drain tube. If the drain tube is plugged, flush it out with clean water. Modify (cut off) the drain tube as shown in Figure 2.

2. Apply Mopar RTV Sealant (04318025) around the A/C-heater housing nipple and install the tube at the angle shown in Figure 2.

POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
