Service Procedure


Service Procedure

1. With the ignition key in the OFF position, disconnect the battery ground.

2. Remove the two screws attaching the driver's side lower dash closure panel and remove the panel from vehicle.

3. Remove the brake pedal to booster input rod retainer clip (Figure 1), and slip the rod off of the pedal pin.


4. Remove the brake lamp switch.

5. Remove the brake pedal pivot shaft. Use a 15 mm open end wrench on the flat
(left side), and a 10 mm socket on the (right side) pivot nut.

6. Slide the pivot shaft to the left to remove.

7. Remove the brake pedal from the vehicle.

8. Transfer the rubber pedal pad, the 2 nylon bushings (Figure 1), and the brake lamp switch striker bracket and nut (8 mm socket) from the removed pedal to the supplied pedal.

9. Install the new assembly in the vehicle, insert the pivot bolt through the brake pedal bracket and pedal tube and tighten to 30 ft.lbs. (41 N-m) torque.

10. Install the booster input rod on the brake pedal pin and install the supplied retainer clip on the pedal pin.

11. Reinstall the brake lamp switch and adjust as follows:

a. Push the switch toward the front of the vehicle as far as it will go. The brake pedal should move slightly.

b. Gently pull back on the brake pedal until it will not go any farther.

12. Reinstall the lower closure panel with the 2 removed screws.

13. Reconnect the battery ground.


14. Start the engine and evaluate the operation of the brake pedal and brakes for proper operation.
