3 Speed Automatic

The transaxle and converter must be removed as an assembly to prevent damage to torque converter driveplate, pump bushing and oil seal. Do not allow weight of transaxle to rest on driveplate. On All Wheel Drive (AWD) models, Power Transfer Unit (PTU) must be removed prior to removing transaxle. Refer to Transfer Case for removal procedures.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect shift control linkage from transaxle.
3. Remove both upper and lower oil cooler hoses.
4. Support engine with suitable engine lifting equipment.
5. Remove bellhousing upper attaching bolts.
6. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels and left splash shield.
7. Remove wheel hub nut and driveshafts.
8. Remove torque converter dust cover, then mark torque converter and driveplate for reference during reassembly.
9. Remove torque converter attaching bolts. Remove plug from access hole in right splash shield to rotate crankcase for bolt removal.
10. Disconnect PRNDL and neutral safety switch electrical connector.
11. Remove front engine mount insulator and bracket.
12. Remove crankshaft position sensor from bellhousing. Failure to remove crankshaft position sensor could cause damage to sensor or torque converter driveplate.
13. Disconnect and remove vehicle distance sensor, if equipped, then remove starter bolts and position starter aside. Do not allow starter to hang from battery cable.
14. Position suitable jack under transaxle, then remove left engine mount.
15. Remove remaining bellhousing attaching bolts.
16. Move transaxle away from engine and lower from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. To reinstall crankshaft position sensor, remove old spacer on sensor face and replace with new.
b. Install sensor in transaxle, pushing down until contact is made with driveplate.
c. Hold in position, then install and tighten retaining bolt to specifications.
