Thermostatic Air Cleaner: Description and Operation
Temperature Sensor:
Heated Inlet Air System:
Purpose
Prevents throttle body icing.
Improves warm up characteristics.
Reduces Hydrocarbon (HC) emissions.
Operation
System uses a temperature sensor, a vacuum actuated blend door, and manifold vacuum, to route ambient air, heated air or a mixture of the two into the air cleaner.
If the ambient temperature is 8° C (15° F), or more, above the air temperature sensor control temperature, ambient air is routed into the air cleaner.
If the ambient temperature falls below the air temperature sensor control temperature, then air heated by the exhaust stove and ambient air are blended into the air cleaner, as follows.
^ Colder ambient temperature, greater flow from exhaust stove.
^ Warmer ambient temperature, greater flow from ambient inlet.
