Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Description and Operation
Fuel Delivery System:
TYPE
The fuel delivery system is a sequential Throttle Body Injection (TBI) type.
PURPOSE
The fuel delivery system supplies engine with proper amount of fuel at correct pressure.
CONSTRUCTION
The fuel delivery system consists of a fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail, two fuel injectors and required fuel lines.
OPERATION
Fuel is pumped from the fuel tank to the fuel injectors through the fuel filter, fuel rail and the pressure regulator, by the electric in-tank fuel pump.
The vacuum assisted regulator maintains pressure at injectors by allowing excess fuel to return to tank via return line.
The engine controller controls the amount of fuel injected by controlling the length of time injectors are energized, this period of time is known as "injector pulse width".
