Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Testing and Inspection
Positive Crankcase Emission System Inspection:
SYSTEM INSPECTION
1. Disconnect the ventilation hose from the air-intake plenum, and connect a hand vacuum pump to the disconnected end of the hose.
2. Attempt to apply vacuum and verify that vacuum leaks. If vacuum holds, the PCV system is obstructed.
PCV VALVE INSPECTION
1. Remove the PCV valve.
2. Insert a thin rod from the threaded end of the PCV valve and verify that the valve plunger moves freely.
3. If the valve does not operate freely or is clogged replace it.
4. When re-installing the PCV valve torque to 6 - 8.5 ft.lbs (8 - 12 Nm).
