System Description
Fuel Delivery System:
Note: Fuel pumps and chassis fuel tubes for FWD models are different from those used on the AWD models, and are not interchangeable.
Purpose
The fuel delivery system supplies the engine with sufficient fuel at the correct pressure for all operating conditions.
Operation
The electric fuel pump pumps fuel from the tank, through the in line filter, to the throttle body injector, and pressure regulator.
The vacuum assisted regulator maintains fuel pressure at the injector by allowing excess fuel to return to tank via the fuel return line.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls fuel flow through the injector by varying the injector pulse width ("ON time").
