DISCUSSION:

When replacing the fuel pressure regulator for any reason, it is important that the installation be done in the correct manner. Incorrect installation could result in diagnosing the regulator as defective and result in an inappropriate replacement.

The removal and installation instructions listed in the Service Manual for the Fuel Pressure Regulator provide the information to correctly perform the procedure.

However, when removing the fuel pressure regulator, the O-rings may remain attached to the regulator. They must be removed from the regulator and separately installed into the fuel rail cavity. When installing the O-rings, apply a light coat of clean engine oil and seat them into the cavity before inserting the regulator (see illustration).
