A/T - Overdrive Reverse Piston Interchanges

TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 311

OVERDRIVE REVERSE PISTON INTERCHANGES

The original version of this piston had eight slots for the overdrive-reverse pressure plate. In order to prevent cracks in the lug-slot area, the piston and pressure plate were redesigned to have only four lugs and lug slots (figure 1).

The next change in piston design was made to the snap-ring groove for the overdrive-reverse pressure plate. The change involved machining a groove in the piston, wide enough to include both snap rings and the pressure plate, rather than two separate grooves (figure 2).

The most recent change to the piston includes a semicircular notch which is cast into the base of each lug slot (figure 3). This was added in order to prevent cracks from forming in this area.

There were no changes made to the pressure plate or snap rings. This piston and four-lug pressure plate, will fit the 41TE and 42LE with no other part changes required.

The orifice in the bottom of the piston is still used (figure 4). The existence of the orifice should be verified during reassembly.

The current part number for this overdrive-reverse piston is 4566310. It includes a four-lug overdrive-reverse pressure plate.
