SUBJECT:
Temperature Control Lever Fails to Hold Position

MODELS:

1991-1993 (AS) Caravan/Grand Caravan/Caravan CV Voyager/Grand Voyager/Town & Country

DISCUSSION:

On some vehicles, movement of the temperature control lever may occur without assistance from the operator.

Temperature control is accomplished by the positioning of the temperature control door in the A/C-heater housing. Because of the large surface area of this door, it is possible for the door to be moved by the force of air pressure acting on the door when the climate control is operated at high airflow conditions; i.e., high road speeds, high blower, bi-level mode.

A revised A/C-heater control unit (P/N 4677225) entered vehicle production 10/15/92 (MDH 1015XX). This control has a higher effort detent spring in the slider block that adds resistance to lever movement, thus minimizing the potential for the lever to move without operator input.
