Front Window - Rolls Up Incorrectly/Weatherstrip Binds

NO.: 23-46-93 Rev. B

GROUP: Body

DATE: Nov. 5, 1993

SUBJECT:
Front Window Rolls Up Outside of Glass Run Weatherstrip Channel

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 23-46-93 REV. A WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. THE PART NUMBER APPLICATION DESCRIPTIONS HAVE BEEN REVISED AND ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS**

MODELS:

1991 - 1993 (AS) Caravan/Grand Caravan/Caravan CV
Voyager/Grand Voyager/Town & Country

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

When rolling the front door window(s) up, the glass contacts the outside edge of the glass run weatherstrip and pushes the weatherstrip up into the cavity of the door along the A-pillar. The condition is most likely to occur at high vehicle road speeds. If the glass is rolled up tight when this condition occurs, permanent damage to the glass run weatherstrip will result.

DIAGNOSIS:

1. Inspect the glass run(s) along the A-pillar(s) of the suspect door(s). If the outer edge of the glass run is rolled off the sheetmetal mounting flange, remove the door trim panel and replace the glass run weatherstrip using the procedure outlined on Page 23-27 of the 1993 Front Wheel Drive/All Wheel Drive Van/Wagon Service Manual (Publication No. 81-370-3105).

2. Slowly roll the glass towards its full up position. If the glass starts to push the glass run weatherstrip into the cavity of the door, do not roll the glass up any farther. Adjust the up-stop (refer to Figure A) so it prevents the glass pushing the glass run weatherstrip into the cavity of the door.

3. With the glass in its full up position, measure from the outside surface of the glass to the seam between the flocked (fuzzy) and smooth rubber on the glass run weatherstrip along the A-pillar (refer to Figures B1, B2). If this measurement is less than 9/32 in. (7 mm), perform the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves increasing the width of the glass run cavity along the A-Pillar of the front door(s).

1. Roll the front door glass down.

2. Pull the glass run weatherstrip out of the cavity of the door along the A-pillar.

3. Insert a wide flat blade screwdriver or other suitable prying device in the cavity along the A-pillar of the door and carefully pry out to widen the cavity (refer to Figure C).

4. Reinstall the glass run weatherstrip into the cavity. Roll the glass to its full up position and remeasure the distance from the outside surface of the glass to the seam between the flocked (fuzzy) and smooth rubber on the glass run along the A-pillar. If this measurement is less than 9/32 in. (7 mm), repeat steps 1-4 until this measurement is between 9/32 in. (7 mm) and 11/32 in. (9 mm).

5. Reinstall the door trim panel.
