Oil Charge Additions

It will not be necessary to check the oil level in the compressor or add oil unless there has been an oil loss. Oil loss at the leak point will be evident by the presence of a wet, shiny surface around the leak. If a leak is detected and the compressor must be removed, it is not necessary to discharge the system unless the refrigerant lines will be removed for service. If the lines will be removed, discharge system as outlined in "System Diagnosis/Evacuating the A/C System" and note the following procedure:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Loosen and remove drive belts and disconnect compressor clutch wire lead.
3. Remove refrigerant lines from compressor.
4. Remove compressor attaching nuts and bolts.
5. From suction port on top of compressor, drain refrigerant oil from compressor.
6. Install replacement components.
7. Add system capacity minus the capacity of components that have not been replaced.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
9. Evacuate and recharge system.
