NOTE: Before attempting to adjust the Throttle Sensor, make certain the idle speed and ignition timing are correctly adjusted. See this section for the proper procedures.
1. Verify the following conditions:
a. Engine fully warmed up. (185-205 F deg)
b. All lights, engine cooling fan and accessories "off".
c. Transmission in P or N.
d. Steering wheel in the straight ahead position (models with power steering only)

Accelerator Cable Adjustment:

2. Verify that the throttle cable has enough slack that it is not holding the throttle open in any way. Loosen the adjustment bolts for the throttle cable if necessary.

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS):

3. Using a high-impedance digital voltmeter, carefully back probe the throttle position connector into terminals #2 and #4. Refer to the connector in the image.

Using Feeler Gauge To Position Throttle Sensor:

4. Insert a .0256 in. (0.656 mm) feeler gauge between the SAS screw and throttle lever.

Adjusting Throttle Sensor:

5. Loosen throttle position sensor mounting bolts and turn the sensor fully clockwise.

Adjusting Throttle Sensor:

6. Check for continuity between terminals 3 and 4.
7. Turn the sensor counter clockwise until there is no continuity. Tighten the sensor set screws securely.

Torque Spec
1.1 - 1.8 Ft lbs (1.5 - 2.5 Nm)

8. Reconnect the harness connector.

Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment:

9. Using a high-impedance digital voltmeter, carefully back probe the throttle position connector into terminals #2 and #4.
10. Turn the key to the ON position.
11. Check the output voltage.

Voltage
0.4 - 1.0 volts

If the voltage is not as specified, check the throttle position sensor and harness.
12. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
13. Disconnect the battery for at least ten seconds to clear any stored trouble codes.
14. If the throttle cable was previously loosened, return the cable to the proper adjustment.
