Shift Indicator - Adjustment Procedure

NO.: 08-21-93

GROUP: Electrical

DATE: May 7, 1993

SUBJECT:
PRNDL Adjustment

MODELS:

1993 (AN) Dakota

DISCUSSION:

When servicing the instrument panel cluster or steering column, care should be used when disconnecting the PRNDL cable. The PRNDL mechanism is self adjusting when installed for the first time. The PRNDL can become misadjusted if care is not taken during disassembly or assembly. The transmission should be in the 1 position when the cable is disconnected or connected and care should be taken not to over-travel the mechanism.

If the PRNDL should become misadjusted (the needle does not line up with the correct gear position), the mechanism can be reset by disconnecting the cable and pulling down on the cable and quickly releasing it. Repeat this 5 or 6 times to reset the self adjusting mechanism. Install the cable with the gear shift lever in the 1 position. When the shift lever is placed in park, the system will adjust for correct alignment.
