Stalls at Idle, Deceleration


Symptom: Engine stalls at stops and on deceleration.

POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION


Idle speed too low ^ ^ Perform minimum Airflow test.

Incorrect initial timing ^ Check base timing.
SEE Ignition System / Adjustments.

^ Check timing belt alignment (Timing belt alignment).


Incorrect spark advance ^ Check spark controls.

EGR malfunction ^ Check EGR system.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation


Restricted exhaust system ^ Check Catalytic Converter.

Poor or contaminated fuel ^ Recommend higher grade fuel


Vacuum hose routing ^ Refer to Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) label under hood. (If label is gone or not readable, verify routing using Diagrams / Vacuum and Vapor Hose.)

Vacuum leak ^ Check around throttle body, intake manifold and vacuum components.
