Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering wheel refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Wheel/Service and Repair.
3. Remove tilt lever, if equipped.
4. Remove upper and lower covers.





5. Remove ignition switch mounting screws, Torx tool No. TTXR15A2 or equivalent then gently pull switch away from column.
6. Disconnect connector lock on 7 pin terminal wiring connector, then the 4 terminal Switch and Halo light connector.
7. Remove the key cylinder from ignition switch as follows:









a. Insert key and place ignition switch in lock position. Using a small screwdriver, depress key cylinder retaining pin flush with key cylinder surface.
b. Rotate key clockwise to Off position. The key cylinder should unseat from the ignition switch assembly.
c. With the key in cylinder in the unseated position, rotate key counterclockwise to the lock position.





d. Remove the key, then the lock cylinder.

INSTALLATION

1. Connect wiring connectors to switch. Ensure that lock tabs are fully seated.









2. Mount ignition switch to column. If equipped with column shift, the shifter must be in the Park position and the park dowel pin on ignition switch must engage with column park lock slider linkage.
3. To verify ignition switch is in lock position, the flag should be parallel with the ignition switch terminals.
4. Apply a small amount of grease to flag and pin, then position park lock link and slider to mid-travel.
5. Position ignition switch against lock housing face. Ensure that pin is inserted into park lock link contour slot. Torque retaining screws to 17 inch lbs.
6. Install cover to column, then tilt lever.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. With the key cylinder and ignition in the lock position, insert key cylinder until it bottoms out.
9. Insert key, then push the key cylinder inward and rotate key cylinder clockwise to end of travel.
10. Ensure proper operation of switch and lock assembly.
