Removal and Installation

1. Remove battery and drain cooling system, then remove upper crossmember and top core support.
2. Remove transmission oil cooler, then recover A/C system and remove serpentine drive belt.
3. Remove A/C compressor with lines attached and position aside, then remove condenser, washer bottle and radiator overflow bottle.
4. Disconnect upper radiator hose, then remove fan and shroud.
5. Disconnect lower radiator hose and remove radiator, then remove generator with wire connections.
6. Disconnect heater hoses at dash panel and at water valve, then disconnect and remove air inlet tube from turbocharger and air intake housing.
7. Remove exhaust pipe from turbocharger outlet flange, then disconnect and remove intercooler inlet and outlet ducts.
8. Disconnect accelerator, speed control and throttle valve linkages, then the power steering hoses and transmission cooler lines.
9. Disconnect all electrical connections from engine, then disconnect fuel lines to lift pump and fuel return. Mark for installation reference.
10. On models with manual transmission, remove shift lever.
11. Raise and support vehicle, then drain engine oil and remove oil pan as outlined under "Oil Pan, Replace."
12. Remove engine front mount through bolts as outlined under "Engine Mounts, Replace," then remove transmission cooler line brackets from oil pan.
13. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold, then disconnect starter wires and remove starter, dust shield and transmission cover.
14. On models with automatic transmission, support transmission, then remove converter bolts and transmission bolts.
15. On models with manual transmission, proceed as follows:
a. Remove propeller shaft and support transmission, then remove rear transmission support and crossmember.
b. Disconnect all wiring and connectors from transmission.
c. Remove transmission, bellhousing, clutch assembly and slave cylinder as outlined in "Clutch and Manual Transmission" section, then remove flywheel/ring gear assembly.

16. Lower vehicle.
17. On models with automatic transmission, support transmission with a suitable jack stand.
18. Cover all engine openings, then lift engine from vehicle.
19. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten all bolts and nuts to specifications.
