Timing Belt: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle2. Remove right hand inner splash shield.
3. Loosen crankshaft pulley and water pump pulley retaining bolts.
4. Remove accessory drive belts, then crankshaft and water pump pulleys.

5. Remove nuts securing timing belt cover to cylinder head and cylinder block, then timing belt cover halves, Fig. 13.
6. Support engine with a suitable jack, then remove right hand engine mount bolt and raise engine slightly.
7. Loosen timing belt tensioner, then remove timing belt.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Rotate crankshaft and intermediate shaft until markings on sprockets are aligned as shown in Fig. 14.

b. Rotate camshaft until arrows on hub are aligned with No. 1 camshaft cap to cylinder head line, Fig. 15.
c. Ensure that all timing marks are still aligned.
d. Install timing belt. Inspect all alignment marks.

e. Set belt tension so that axis of belt tension tool No. C-4703, or equivalent, is within 15° of horizontal, Fig. 16.
f. Rotate crankshaft two revolutions in a clockwise direction, then position at TDC. Tighten tensioner lock nut.
