DISCUSSION:
These vehicles that are equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) have a new push twice-to-unlatch release feature for the deck lid/liftgate. If the button is pushed the second time too quickly, the deck lid/liftgate will not release. It is necessary to have approximately a one second delay between pushes of the button, but within two seconds, for proper operation. The proper timing for the deck lid/liftgate button push sequence can be achieved by fully depressing the button then fully releasing it (remove thumb from contact with the button), then fully depressing the button again.
This is the same type of delay required for proper operation of the unlock feature for the passenger door locks that has been on 1994 model vehicles and is also on 1995 model vehicles. The only difference is the second push for the passenger doors to unlock has to be made within five seconds instead of two.
The push twice feature was added to the deck lid/liftgate release to help prevent opening the deck lid/liftgate by mistake and that is also the reason for making the time in which the second push must take place so short.
