Throttle Body Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Measures throttle body temperature which is the same as fuel temperature.

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses this information to adjust air/fuel mixture for hot restart conditions.

OPERATION
Resistance of sensor changes as fuel temperature changes.

NOTE: The following information is intended to be used in conjunction with the electrical diagrams.

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The throttle body temperature sensor provides an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on circuit K21. Circuit K21 connects to cavity 21 of the PCM.

From circuit K21, the sensor draws voltage from the PCM. The sensor is a variable resistor. As throttle body temperature changes, the resistance in the sensor changes, causing a change in current draw.

The PCM provides a ground for the throttle body temperature sensor signal (circuit K21) through circuit K4. Circuit K4 connects to cavity 4 of the PCM.
