Distributor Assembly Replacement
Fig. 6 Rotor Alignment Mark:
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, and remove distributor cap.
2. Mark rotation and position of distributor housing to aid in installation.
3. Slowly rotate engine clockwise with a socket on crankshaft vibration damper mounting bolt until indicating mark on damper aligns to 0degrees mark on timing chain cover. Distributor rotor should align with stamped ``CYL. No. 1'' alignment mark on distributor plate, Fig.6. If not, rotate engine another 360°.
4. Disconnect camshaft position sensor wiring harness from main engine wiring harness then remove distributor rotor.
5. Remove hold-down bolt and distributor. Do not crank engine with distributor removed.
INSTALLATION
1. If engine has been cranked while distributor was removed, rotate crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder piston is at top dead center on its compression stroke and indicating mark on damper aligns to ° mark on timing chain cover.
2. Clean top of cylinder block for a good seal between distributor and block, then lightly oil rubber O-ring on distributor housing.
3. Install rotor on distributor shaft, then position distributor into engine, engage tongue of distributor shaft with slot in oil pump drive gear.
4. Position rotor to No. 1 spark plug cable position, then install distributor hold-down clamp and clamp bolt. Do not tighten.
5. Rotate distributor until rotor is aligned to ``CYL. NO. 1'' alignment mark on camshaft position sensor, Fig.6.
6. Tighten clamp hold-down bolt. Torque bolt to 200 inch lbs.
7. Connect switch plate wiring harness and install distributor cap.
