Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair
Crankshaft Position Sensor Location:
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove spark plug cable loom at right rear valve cover.
3. Disconnect two hoses at EGR valve. Note position of hoses before disconnecting.
4. Disconnect electrical connector and hoses at EGR transducer. Note position of hoses before disconnecting.
NOTE: DO NOT pull on sensor electrical lead.
5. Remove 2 EGR valve mounting bolts and remove valve.
6. Disconnect electrical connector at oil pressure sending unit.
Oil Pressure Sending Unit Removal/Installation:
7. Using special tool # C-4597 or equivalent remove oil pressure sending unit.
8. Loosen EGR tube mounting nut at the intake manifold. Remove EGR tube mounting bolts at the exhaust manifold and remove EGR tube.
9. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor electrical connector.
10. Remove crankshaft position sensor mounting bolts and remove sensor.
INSTALLATION
1. Position crankshaft position sensor, and install mounting bolts. Torque mounting bolts to 8 Nm (70 in-lbs).
2. Connect crankshaft position sensor electrical connector.
3. Using new gaskets, install EGR tube and torque bolts to 23 Nm (204 in-lbs).
4. Using special tool # C-4597 or equivalent install oil pressure sending unit. Coat threads of sending unit with thread sealer prior to installation. Tighten to 14 Nm (130 in. lbs.).
5. Connect oil pressure sending unit electrical connector.
6. Using a new gasket, install EGR valve. Torque mounting bolts to 23 Nm (204 in-lbs).
7. Connect electrical connector and hoses at EGR transducer.
8. Connect two hoses at EGR valve.
9. Install spark plug cable loom at right rear valve cover.
10. Install the air cleaner housing and plastic air intake tube.
11. Connect negative battery cable.
